Valentine's Day

Dear Families,
We will be having a low key Valentine’s Day celebration sometime during the day on Tuesday, February 14th. Please remember: If you choose to send valentines, include one for every child in the class. We have 27 children in the class. Please wait until February 14th to send the valentines to school and have your child keep them in their backpack.  You may send candy, but children will not be allowed to eat any candy until they have arrived home.
If you would like to donate snacks or beverages for our celebration, please let me know so that I know we have enough. We also need paper plates and napkins. Please no nuts, dairy products and no homemade treats. If your child has special dietary needs and you would prefer a small treat from home, please send it with them on Tuesday. Thanks!

Treat Ideas: carrots, applesauce, string cheese, fruit leathers

HOMEWORK: please decorate a small bag (lunch size) or shoebox to collect your valentines. You may bring it on Tuesday February 14th.

Here is a class list: students can either address to each child or just sign their name (not addressed to a specific classmates)

New Writing Unit

We are starting a new and exciting writing unit called: How- To's. This unit will give your child an opportunity to share something they are really good at, like blowing bubbles, playing soccer, riding a bike, etc. At the end of the unit, they are expected to be able to list the materials/ingredients, give directions, sequence steps to follow and pictures to match the steps. We will also focus on including transition words while writing the steps. We look forward to reading and learning from each other!

Auction Project: we need parent/s

Please read the email below and let me know if this is something you are interested in! The students always have fun being a part of making a project for the auction! The more parents, the merrier!

Hello! My name is Maureen and I am a parent of a 4th grader at Atkinson. I am helping out with this year's Atkinson Elementary School Auction.  This year the Atkinson Auction will be on Sat. April 15th at the Oaks Park Pavilion and the theme is "Amor."

I am writing to you because, as in past years, we would love if your class could contribute by providing an art project or by using your imagination to put together another item that can be sold at the auction (for example, a themed basket or gift bag).

I am getting in touch to get the ball rolling and to talk with you about coordinate this project with a parent or small group of parents in your classroom. Could you let me know if you have a parent or parents who might be willing to help coordinate for your classroom?

For inspiration, you can have your students parents look at Atkinson Auction Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/Auction.Atkinson.  If you need more ideas, there are also many wonderful class art projects for similar events available on Pinterest - have a look!

Thanks for helping the Atkinson PTA put on this event to support our school.

Sincerely,
Maureen Hickey Putnam

What a great day!

Wow! We had such a crazy end to school in December! It was so nice to see all the children's smiles! They all had a wonderful day and shared fun stories of winter break! We are so lucky to have Ms. Edenstrom be full day with us through the end of April.
We will be having a guest speaker this month to talk about trees and do some paper making. We are also having someone come from the Audubon Society to talk about habitats.
I would also like to thank you all for the warm thoughts and gifts! I feel very blessed to have you and your children in my life!
Warmly,
    Mrs. Humphrey
